Cherry Blossom Festival Preparation -- Volunteers Needed

The Cherry Blossom organizers are soliciting for more assistance next week in preparation for the festival. They have asked Judo and Aikido specifically for help with setting up the outside stage on Friday.  If you have the time, please show up from 4-5pm Friady 6/27 at the main gate entrance to help with stage set up.

Also, we are are going to start our summer hours beginning Mon 6/23 and hold practice until 8:30pm.  We will use the extra 1/2 hour next week to work on our Judo performance.  I am crossing my fingers that the gym won't be occupied with preppers and that we can hold practice as normal.

Kan Geiko 2014

Here's the kan geiko info. For those of you new to Judo, kan geiko is "winter training" a Japanese tradition to train in the bitter winter cold at the beginning of the New Year to toughen one's spirit. Here, we celebrate "kan geiko" by visiting surrounding Judo clubs for a whole week to start off the New Year with the intent of training hard. Make as many of these as you can.

A few items to note:

1. For Monday night DBT Judo members do not have to input a parking pass code at the kiosk IF you have parking pass hang tag.

2. Aikido has graciously moved their practice into the auditorium for Monday night. If some of us can arrive early, let's help Aikido move tables, chairs and mats in the auditorium.

3. Print and sign the attached Denver Judo waiver if you plan to go to the Wed and/or Fri practice. (I will not likely make the Friday practice as it is a soccer night for one of my boys.)

4,. We may be taking Thursday since its still open. I am still looking into parking permission.

5. Practice Jita Kyoei (mutual benefit and welfare) meaning train hard but safely

Represent DBT Judo at the Colfax Marathon!

The Temple has asked DBT Judo, Aikido and Karate if we would be interested in fielding a relay team for the Colfax marathon in May. I don't have all the details but it would cost about $45 per runner. The team would consist of 5 members each running about a 5 mile leg to complete the 26+ miles. We would be helping the Temple so proceeds from your sponsors would go to the Temple, not the Judo club. If we have more than five students who are interested, we could perhaps field two teams. Anyway, for now - show of hands - who would be interested in running a leg?

Email Sensei Sakata for details!
